The beginning of a goal feels clean.
New plan. New tracker. New identity. New energy.
Then the middle arrives. Nothing is new. The results are not dramatic yet. The work is ordinary.
That is where grit becomes useful.
The middle is the test
Most people do not quit because the goal is impossible. They quit because the goal becomes boring before it becomes rewarding.
The boring middle asks a simple question:
Can you keep showing up when the work is no longer exciting?
Make boring repeatable
Do not rely on intensity here. Use structure.
- Same workout days
- Same reading time
- Same meal defaults
- Same daily checklist
The middle needs fewer speeches and more defaults.
Remember the signal
Boredom is not proof you chose the wrong goal. Often, it is proof the habit is becoming normal.
Stay with the middle long enough for normal to become identity.
